Steilacoom High School junior Sierra Flake and sophomore Noah Burlingame have been selected to attend the 2015 Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program, to be held in late October at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Twelve students nationwide are selected each year to attend this prestigious opportunity.
The program was named for Mrs. Frances Hesselbein, in recognition of her dedication to the development of children and youth. Under the direction of the Military Child Education Coalition, and following the inspiration and guidance of Mrs. Hesselbein, this one-week program delivers intensive training, interaction with positive role models, and practical applications which benefit participants in their studies and throughout their lifetime.
Sierra and Noah completed a rigorous application process which included a resume, essay, recommendations, and evidence of good academic standing and attendance. They are both active members of the nationally recognized Student 2 Student (S2S) program at Steilacoom High School. This student led group assists new students’ transition to the school by creating a positive, inclusive atmosphere for incoming students as well as easing the transition for both incoming and outgoing students.
