Lakewood police investigator named prosecutor’s ‘Officer of the Year’

August 12, 2015 By City of Lakewood

On Aug. 7, the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office awarded Investigator Jeff Martin its Lakewood Police Department Officer of the Year Award for 2014-15.

Prosecutor Mark Lindquist presented the award during his office’s annual Picnic in the Park, at Tacoma’s Wright Park.

Over the last year, Martin’s work contributed to several high-profile arrests and, ultimately, convictions, according to the Prosecutor’s Office. They included:

  • A cold-case gang shooting in which the jury convicted the defendant of attempted murder. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison.
  • Solving a case of attempted prostitution that resulted in the shooting of a man. The shooter was convicted of attempted murder, and she was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
  • Identifying a suspected gang member who shot two men as they walked to their jobs. He pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and was sentenced to 28.5 years in prison.
  • Identifying a suspect in the unsolved stabbing of a Good Samaritan trying to protect a gas station worker from being attacked. He was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison.
