TACOMA – Drivers who use Tacoma area highways may encounter nighttime delays the week of July 6 while construction crews plan a series of overnight ramp closures as part of the I-5: M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV and I-5 – Portland Avenue to Port of Tacoma Road – Northbound HOV projects.
On Monday, July 6, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, the northbound Interstate 5 collector/distributor lanes from eastbound State Route 16 and East 38th Street to State Route 7 and Interstate 705 will close. In addition, the northbound I-5 exit to northbound State Route 167 will close on the same night, during the same hours.
The southbound I-705 ramps to northbound and southbound I-5 will close at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7 and Wednesday, July 8 to 4 a.m. each following day. The same ramps will close during the early morning hours of Friday, July 10, from 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. Drivers will follow a signed detour.
Continued ramp closures
- Northbound State Route 7 on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5.
- A Street on-ramp to northbound Interstate 705/I-5.
In addition, drivers can expect additional overnight single- and double-lane closures in segments of both northbound and southbound I-5 between M Street and the Port of Tacoma Road.
