Weather permitting, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will install pavement markings on Interstate 5 in Pierce County during the overnight hours of Thursday, May 21.
Drivers who use southbound I-5 from Gravelly Lake Drive to Mounts Road can anticipate short term overnight ramp and lane closures. Work hours are from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day. During the overnight mobile closures, southbound I-5 will be reduced to a single lane in small segments in the area between milepost 124 to 116.
Drivers can anticipate short term mobile ramp closures for southbound I-5 at Gravelly Lake Drive, Thorne Lane, JBLM Main Gate, Steilacoom-DuPont Road (Exit 119), Center Drive (exit 118) and the Mounts Road exit. Only one ramp at a time will be closed. Ramp closures are expected to be short in duration.
Lane closures originally scheduled on I-5 in Olympia and Tumwater for Thursday night have been cancelled.
The work is part of the I-5 – Vicinity Tumwater Boulevard to Gravelly Lake Drive – Paving project.
