Two hundred ladies and gents attended the DuPont Historical Society’s 2015 Annual Cherry Blossom Tea and Vintage Fashion Show on Saturday, May 2 at Chloe Clark Elementary School. This year’s theme was Women in Action: A Hundred Years of Ladies’ Sports Fashions. The Fashion Show was written and produced by Nancy Barones with the Tacoma Goodwill Industries Olden Goldie Guild. Guild members modeled ladies’ sportswear fashions from the past century that were pulled from the Goodwill vintage fashion collection. Tables were decorated in athletic themes (past and present) by volunteers and table hosts.
The Annual Cherry Blossom Tea is a major fundraiser for the DuPont Historical Society. The tea was begun in the 1940s to celebrate the blossoming of the Cherry Trees which still line the Historic Village streets. Eight years ago, the Historical Society breathed new life into the event, which was discontinued in the 1960s. All proceeds benefit the museum to help preserve, protect and promote the history of DuPont and the South Puget Sound region. This year’s tea took in $3,900 to date and the Historical Society is planning next year’s event. Special thanks to those businesses and organizations who helped sponsor the program and the many volunteers who made it a success! And thank you for ensuring that DuPont’s history remains as vibrant its future!
