Volunteers from the Steilacoom Garden Club and Master Gardeners, in partnership with the Public Works Department, have planted nearly 300 shrubs, grasses, perennials, trailing heaths and ground covers in sixteen bump-outs along Lafayette in downtown Steilacoom. This variety of low maintenance plants replaced the tired-looking bush heaths that were planted many years ago. The new plantings may look a little sparse now but will grow to fill the spaces. Thanks to Public Works, these sites all have irrigation. Keep an eye out for these new bright spots in Steilacoom’s downtown corridor.
