Last year the stars finally aligned for me to invest in that starter tomato plant. I had found equal parts of time, vegetable motivation, and an earnest desire to take care of my new “pet.” The husband moved beyond the chiding of his wife and her silly beefsteak tomato goals, and encouraged me to promptly get to Lakewood Hardware where he had eyeballed assorted plants greeting him at the door. He had already moved most of his operations supply orders over that direction and Lakewold had long done business with the great crew at Lakewood Hardware, so it was a natural that I’d at least check it out.
He was right – and I never like to admit that (much less in print). Not only were there quality vegetable plants out front (non-leggy, well-watered, and healthy), but there was a delightfully serene area in the back with some of those good quality plants and shrubs we all know and love in our Lakewood yards. Sold friend!
As we have spent the last three years building the Garden Shop at Lakewold Gardens, I was struck by how complementary our unique tools and plants were to the garden inventory at Lakewood Hardware. It’s as if our respective inventories worked together to meet the needs of our community. However, we hadn’t quite got to that point in the conversation yet. We’re here, now, though. And…we are spreading the word.
This spring, we invite and challenge you, to take us up on our partner offer of purchasing your plants, tools, and small gardening supplies locally – here in Lakewood! We can’t promise you’ll find everything – but my guess is you’ll be pretty pleased with the results as you pull your weeds, prune those bushes, and get excited about your upcoming backyard barbeques. And, as you share with us what it is you need, you can bet we’ll listen and take to heart how to meet those future gardening needs found within our community. It only gets better from here.
Lakewood Hardware & Paint and Lakewold Gardens: a gardening supply friendship – going public. Put us on your shopping list first for unique plants, gardening supplies, tools, seeds, vegetable starts, shrubs, and all of your garden needs. Give us a shot, shop local. It’s a community thing!
