Opening Day for the Seattle Mariners generated a stadium’s worth of excitement Monday, April 6, but it was even more meaningful for the Lakewood community.
As it has done the past five years, the Lakewood Police Department had the honor of carrying out and waving the giant American Flag before a sold-out Safeco Field crowd.
This year, however, it meant something extra special. The Mariners recognized Chief Bret Farrar, whose last official day was Monday, and whose last official act as chief was accompanying his department onto the field. The Chief’s smiling face was shown on the Safeco Field big screen to the crowd, who seemed to know instinctively about his contributions to the community.
The City of Lakewood would like to thank the Seattle Mariners for the special recognition.
More importantly, the City would like to thank Chief Farrar for his tireless work on behalf of the Lakewood community to keep it safe. Happy retirement, Chief.
And most importantly, we would like to thank our Police Department for keeping our community safe and showcasing our pride to the Northwest.
