Drivers heading to Tillicum from northbound Interstate 5 at the Berkeley Street/Exit 122 will need to plan for an alternate route beginning April 6 while Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews extract and repair one of two water pumps at the ramp terminus.
Beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 6, crews will close the left lane of the northbound I-5 exit to Berkeley Street. The lane will remain closed until 6 a.m., Tuesday, April 7. During the lane closure, drivers using that northbound I-5 exit will not be able to turn left onto Berkeley Street. Drivers will be allowed to make a right turn onto Jackson Avenue, or to continue straight onto northbound I-5.
The two water pumps, which move stormwater between I-5 and nearby stormwater ponds, were installed in 1954 when the freeway was built. During the lane closure, a large crane will extract one of the water pumps to be repaired off-site.
Once the pump is repaired, drivers can expect a similar lane closure for reinstallation.
