It’s been a few years since plans for Harlock Place Park were put into motion. Thanks, though, to the determined dedication of a few Steilacoom residents, plans to create the park near property owned by a 1920s-era family Ray and “Izzy” Harlock.
The 2.2 acres of land, just off Galloway St. was pared down several years ago, after the 2011 death of Sylvia Harlock, their only daughter. At that time, several of Sylvia’s friends decided to create a park in her memory.
On an overcast March afternoon, members of the Harlock Place Park Steering Committee met while a sign, designating the park site, was installed. Steering Committee members include Sally Jacky Davidson, Billie Blattler and Karen Forchione. A formal dedication of the site is planned for later this spring, said Mrs. Jacky Davidson. The sign, bearing the Town of Steilacoom logo, is visible along Galloway/Lexington Streets.
