TACOMA – Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close Tacoma-area Interstate 5 exits and lanes during the week of March 9.
The work is connected to the I-5 – M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV and adjacent I-5 – Portland Avenue to Port of Tacoma Road – Northbound HOV projects.
Monday and Tuesday, March 9-10
o At 10 p.m., the southbound Interstate 705 on-ramp to southbound I-5 and the northbound State Route 7/I-705 exit to City Center will close until 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 10.
o At 11 p.m., the northbound I-5 collector/distributor exit to northbound I-705 will close until 4 a.m. Tuesday, March 10.
The same overnight ramp closures will take place from Tuesday night, March 10 into Wednesday morning, March 11.
Wednesday, March 11
o At 10 p.m., the southbound I-705 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close until 6 a.m. Thursday, March 12.
o At 11 p.m., the northbound I-5 collector/distributor exit to northbound I-705 will close until 4 a.m. Thursday, March 12.
Thursday, March 12
o At 11 p.m. the northbound SR 7 on-ramp to northbound I-5 and the southbound I-705 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close until 6 a.m. Friday, March 13.
Friday, March 13
- At 12:01 a.m. on Friday, March 13, the northbound I-5 collector/distributor exit to northbound I-705 will close until 4 a.m.
Additional ramps closed around the clock:
- Pacific Avenue to southbound I-5
- Southbound I-5 to SR 7
- Northbound SR 7 to southbound I-5
- A Street to I- 705
From Monday through Thursday, March 9-13, overnight single lane closures will take place on northbound and southbound I-5 between M Street and Portland Avenue. The lanes will reopen each following morning.
As a reminder, drivers who use a segment of 20th Street East in Fife are encouraged to prepare for a two year construction-related road closure and detour that begins at 6 a.m., Monday, March 9.
