Lakewood resident – and occasional The Suburban Times contributor – Judi Hunter couldn’t be prouder of her seven-year-old grandson, Hunter. When asked what he wanted for his 7th birthday Hunter told his Mom, “I want a party but don’t need any presents.”
When challenged with the idea that some friends may want to bring something, Hunter thought about it and said, “Why don’t they bring food and we can give the food to people who are hungry?”
“The lump in my throat grew as I was so touched by his wisdom and generosity,” said Mom Jacey Liberty. “Weeks went by and we developed the birthday party plan. The ‘Birthday Benefit’ ensued and a large group of family and friends celebrated his birthday with canned foods and items that have been donated to the Thurston County food bank.”
Adds Grandma Judi, “Since my daughter lives in the Olympia area, proceeds go to the Thurston County food bank. For those of us in Lakewood, ours will be going to our own local food bank.”
Way to go Hunter. Happy Birthday.
