Remember that cool mid-50s Mickey Mouse Club song that the Mousketeers used to sing on the Wednesday shows? “Today is the day that is filled with surprises—nobody knows what’s going to happen!” That’s for darn sure! Could never have anticipated this one!
There I was, traveling through Lakewood, at the posted 30 mph, when all of a sudden I saw red and blue fireworks going off in my rear view mirror, followed by a siren. I dutifully pulled over, puzzled about what I might have done.
Officer TA appeared at my window, requesting my license, proof of ownership, etc., and as he returned to his car, he politely reminded me that Lakewood has a “NO TOLERANCE POLICY” toward folks who don’t pay attention to posted speed signs in school zones!
A few minutes later he returned with the citation! YIPES! $210.00, and three options for paying the fine. I drove over to Municipal Court, which was just around the corner, and after learning that the options were not as generous as I’d hoped. I handed my handy-dandy platinum credit card over to the cashier to remove the debt and add more to my credit card limit! Thank goodness. Now, I just have to sell a few more stories or …
Lesson definitely learned! So, for all of you obedient, attentive drivers through Lakewood, or any other area with lots of schools—REMEMBER THAT THE SPEED LIMIT IS 20 MPH IN SCHOOL ZONES.
