The Tacoma Community College will host three Winter Quarter Concerts starting this week. All concerts start at 7:30 pm in the Building 2 Auditorium. Admission is free; donations accepted.
Feb. 25: International Euphonium soloist Jason Gilliam plays with the TCC Orchestra . Works by Sibelius and Bourgeoise.
March 5: TCC Choirs, “It Takes a Village” – Led by Dr. Anne Lyman, the TCC Voices and TCC Singers perform with Bong Lang Ruamjai, an ensemble from the Thai Buddhist temple Wat Washington Buddhavanaram. The concert features folk music from the northeast of Thailand, as well as Thai pop and Northern melodies.
Bong Lang Raumjai has performed at venues such as Folklife and the Lynden Music Festival. Instruments highlighted are the bong lang (an idiophone like a vertical marimba), the pin (a 3-stringed guitar), saw (fiddle) and percussion. Lead musicians are Adam Porter (pin and bong lang) and Lee Sledd (percussion and saw).
According to Sledd, “The band exists to preserve, share and teach this musical tradition, and to have fun.”
March 13: TCC Symphonic Band – The TCC Symphonic Band Performs a variety of masterworks for wind band.
