GIG HARBOR, WASHINGTON – Oct. 14, 2014 – Kensington Gardens Estate Senior Living, one of the region’s most luxurious and individually oriented yet affordable skilled assisted care homes, announced today it has expanded its facility and is accepting applications for residency and its wait list. The newly renovated Manor Garden Suite, on the main floor of the opulent privately owned and operated Georgian mansion, offers six beautifully equipped rooms supported by a 24-hour fully licensed dedicated care staff.
“The new addition reflects the growing demand for thoughtful, tailored and loving care in an intimate home setting,” said Kelly Watson, Kensington Gardens Estate Living owner. “We’ve had such a positive experience with our first senior living site, the Carriage House. Our goal is to continue providing this uniquely customized skilled assisted living through careful, managed growth that continues to meet individual needs.”
Kensington Gardens, situated on 23 acres of surrounding lush formal gardens and grand fountains, has evolved from a renowned high-end destination event venue in Washington’s South Sound to a highly rated, licensed facility offering short- or long-term care to adults who require some level of assisted care.
Kelly and Mark Watson opened the Carriage House in 2012. Like many Baby Boomers, Kelly and her husband, Mark, had experienced caring for aged family members. As they researched options available to those who need help with their older relatives, they realized how important it is for family members to talk about their parents’ needs and wishes, and to actively plan. The couple became determined to offer other families an alternative – a truly homelike, high-quality option for custom supportive care — and set out renovating their mansion to meet this need.
The new Manor Garden Suite rooms’ design reflects the Watsons’ commitment to making residents feel like they are part of a loving family – an intimate environment suffused with warm touches of home in a gracious, refined setting. Like the nearby Carriage House, with its own 24-hour care staff and five private rooms, the Manor Garden Suite features roll-in shower with heated floors, spacious layout with high ceilings in each room and areas that enhance sociability and family time.
Residents choose from a wide array of activities, both on-site and throughout the community, that provide intellectual stimulation and fun. A full-time activity director plans in-house events like movies, spa days, games, computer classes, music and more. “Because we get to know our residents so well, we do whatever we can to help them continue to cultivate their personal hobbies and passions,” Watson said.
A new luxury bus, which carries up to 14, along with a 5-seat van, both of which are handicapped-accessible and include such amenities as large picture windows, beautiful finishes and a personable chauffeur, transport Kensington Garden residents in style and comfort to off-site venues like the productions, lunch and dinner parties and concerts.
But, even more important than exquisite design and professional care, according to Watson, is Kensington Gardens’ operating philosophy. “We truly believe we are unique in this industry,” she said. “Everything we do, from the gourmet food we serve, to our personalized social activities, to the way we help with everyday needs, is done with compassion and love. Our staff-to-resident ratio is higher than average with low turnover, we listen carefully to each and every resident so we can accommodate their likes, dislikes, hobbies and goals and we design plans that proactively address individuals’ emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs. In other words, we treat our residents how we would like to be treated.”
“Too often this stage of people’s lives is left to chance and doesn’t turn out like one had hoped,” Watson said. “A health crisis or sudden decline forces people to face the reality that their parents are getting older. But seniors want to be independent and stay in their own homes as long as they can. We help people plan for each next step, and get the precise type of assistance they might need along the way.”
In addition to its on-site skilled care, the business also offers a continuum of services to those who live in their own homes and benefit from check-ins, meals, or help with medicine, housekeeping, appointments, etc. To encourage beneficial social activity, Kensington Gardens also provides access to a wide array of community activities for its residents as well as those senior adults who live at home.
