Walk Tacoma Family Walk July 16

July 14, 2014 By Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce

Bring your family downtown and enjoy a group walk along Pacific Avenue and the south waterfront, with fun activities for the kids, a visit by Rhubarb, goodie bags, and a ride on the Link. Choose between the Family Walk, led by Dianna Kielian, Sr. Vice President for Mission with series sponsor Franciscan Health System, geared toward children elementary school age and younger, or a history walk led by Ron Magden, local historian. Both groups will walk the same 1 mile route. The Family Walk event, sponsored by the Tacoma Rainiers, is on Wednesday, July 16 from noon – 1pm, starting outside the Children’s Museum at S. 15th & Pacific Avenue. There is no need to pre-register for the event, simply join Downtown On the Go at the meeting spot.

“We’re so excited to show how family friendly downtown really is. After seeing so many families at the Walk Tacoma Scavenger Hunt last year, we decided to collaborate with the Children’s Museum of Tacoma and the United Way of Pierce County to hold a family-friendly walking event in downtown,” said Meagan Kula, Downtown On the Go Coordinator.

Walk Tacoma 2014, sponsored by Franciscan Health System, is an eight-event walking series held on first and third Wednesdays, from April through August. The fun, themed walks, now in their fifth year, encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. Discover downtown through this walking series.

Walking maps of the routes are available at no cost at Downtown On the Go (950 Pacific Ave, Suite 300), at many downtown businesses, or by contacting Meagan Kula, Downtown On the Go Coordinator, at dotg.
