CPTC Awards First Honorary Degree to 94-Year-Old Cosmetology Supporter

June 25, 2014 By Ben Sclair

LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Long-time Cosmetology Program supporter and volunteer 94-year-old Elnora Medley was awarded Clover Park Technical College’s first Honorary Degree at the 2014 Commencement Ceremony June 18 at the Tacoma Dome.

Dr. Lonnie L. Howard, CPTC President, along with Lua Pritchard, Board of Trustees Chair, presented the honorary degree to Medley, who was dressed in graduation cap and gown.

HonDegree-Medley

Medley has supported CPTC’s Cosmetology Program since 1963, having her perm set and hair trimmed by student cosmetologists. She also supports the students by serving as a hair model for the students’ state board certifications.

She has seen the program move to four different buildings and witnessed the evolution of chemicals and methods to set her perm over the past 50 years.

CPTC is thankful for Medley’s support and commitment to the students of the Cosmetology Program.
