The Clover Park School District Board of Directors will hold a public hearing Monday, June 23, at 4:30 p.m. in room 4 of the Student Services Center, 10903 Gravelly Lake Dr. SW, in Lakewood.
The purpose of the public hearing is for the school board to receive public input as it considers repurposing unused state school construction assistance funds from the voter approved, 2010 school construction bond for the necessary addition of elementary classrooms.
The school board is considering a construction project at Lakeview Hope Academy that would include:
- Eight new classrooms and additional restrooms;
- 4,200 square feet of covered play areas;
- New play area for kindergarten classrooms; and
- More parking space as required by the city of Lakewood for the additional square footage.
The estimated total square footage increase is anticipated to be approximately 10,000 square feet.
Funding for the project would come from savings achieved from the 2010 voter-approved, school construction project for Hudtloff Middle School, which was completed in September 2013.
“The new Hudtloff Middle School was constructed during the recent recession,” said Clover Park School District Superintendent Debbie LeBeau. “We benefitted from great pricing of supplies and labor for that project. Now, we’d like to repurpose those savings to address our need for more elementary school classrooms due to class size reductions and student enrollment growth.”
If individuals are unable to attend the public hearing, written comments will be accepted through Monday, June 23 and should be sent to Carmen Lewis, Clover Park School District, 10903 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
If the board determines it is in the best interest of the district to direct the unused funds for the purpose of constructing additional classrooms at Lakeview Hope Academy, the board may, at a future public meeting, adopt a new resolution or amend the original resolution (No. 10-026) approving the changes.
For more information, please call the district’s administrator for business services and capital projects Rick Ring at 253-583-5010.

I am wondering why some of these public meetings are not giving notice to the public earlier than the day before or same day in your paper? Are they being advertised elsewhere earlier? Very few folks that I know are able to drop everything at a moments notice and attend these meetings.
