Celebrate “Walk Tacoma Day” with the Public Art Walk

June 16, 2014 By Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce

TACOMA – Help celebrate “Walk Tacoma Day” by joining Elizabeth Conner, Pacific Avenue Streetscape Artist and Downtown On the Go on the Walk Tacoma Public Art Walk, Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 5:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

The 1.2 mile walk, sponsored by Spaceworks Tacoma, will start at Fireman’s Park at 7th and Pacific Avenue.  Learn the stories behind Tacoma’s many art installations, including Spaceworks and the interactive rain garden art along Pacific Avenue.

After a short trip back on the Link, participants are invited to stay for a social at The Forum at 6:30 p.m., sponsored by TrueBlue Inc.  There is no need to pre-register for the event, simply join Downtown On the Go at the meeting spot.

The Walk Tacoma program will be honored on June 17 with a City of Tacoma proclamation.  This proclamation recognizes the success of the Walk Tacoma program, and highlights the importance of a walkable city. This year, Walk Tacoma events have seen over 800 participants.

Walk Tacoma 2014, sponsored by Franciscan Health System, is an eight-event walking series held on first and third Wednesdays, from April through August. The fun, themed walks, now in their fifth year, encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. The Walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and just after work to encourage downtown employees to walk during their workday, whether it is to and from work or at a lunch break.

Walking maps of the routes are available at no cost at Downtown On the Go (950 Pacific Ave, Suite 300), at many downtown businesses, or by contacting Meagan Kula, Downtown On the Go Coordinator, at 253-682-1734 or dotg@tacomachamber.org.
