Splash on in for local summer fun

June 15, 2014 By The Suburban Times

Oakbrook  Swim and Tennis Club invites you to an Open House on Saturday June 21st 12 – 9 pm.  You and your  family can check out the facilities and swim for free. Ice cream will be served from 2 – 4pm. Oakbrook Swim and Tennis Club is a great local family friendly place to spend the summer. This will be the 50th year this club has been open for local families from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

OSTC not only has two outdoor heated swimming pools but it boasts the areas only outdoor pool with a diving board!  One pool is large enough to be separated into two distinct areas.  There is a shallow end with steps and a bar to help ease your way into the pool, and a larger end  includes a water basketball hoop and gets deep enough for the diving board.  This pool is guarded during open swim by two lifeguards.  The second pool is a heated wading area that is designated for our guests 5 years of age and younger – this gives younger children an opportunity to get comfortable being in the water without splashes and waves from the older kids!

It is not uncommon on a summer afternoon to find children in the pool, or playing games on the grassy field surrounding the club while parents read, relax, visit or maybe have an impromptu barbeque with friends at the pool.  Many parents will stop in on the way home from work just to sit on the deck and enjoy the sunshine!

The club has a large deck area with numerous umbrella covered tables, lounge chairs and picnic tables.  There is also a covered cabana furnished with two barbeques that are available for members use.

The club is current accepting applications for the upcoming season.  Check out  www.oakbrooksharks.net for all the details.

This local gem is  a not-for-profit facility.

Drowning is the second leading cause of injury death for Washington children ages  1-17. Having your children and family swim at a facility that is staffed with certified lifeguards is a great way to reduce that risk.
