Lakewood Rotary is again offering the opportunity for a life-changing student exchange. Details as follows:
Age Requirement: Born between August 16, 1997 and August 15, 1999.
Departure: August 2015 and returning July 2016 (approximately)
Cost: Student/family cost is estimated to be $5-6,000 (options and increased plane fares could make it as high as $12,000). This includes travel to interviews, travel to the country, travel documents, health insurance, gifts and pins, blazer, travel in-country, camera and miscellaneous costs. Net savings would include no car insurance or car expense, no food expense, etc. for the year abroad (estimated between $3,000 and $6,000 per year, making the net cost quite a bit less).
Room and Board: Rotary arranges stays with up to four families, with no cost to the student for room and food. The host Rotary Club in the foreign country provides an allowance (about $125 US per month).
School Credit: Students are expected to participate fully in the destination school, taking a full course of subjects. In some cases, credit can be applied back in the United States. It is the student’s responsibility to coordinate with his/her US high school, regarding transfer of credits.
ALL APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY OCT. 1.
Interviews will follow this date, and the final local choices will be forwarded to the Rotary District level by Nov. 10. Interviews will be conducted in Victoria, BC, in December, 2014. At least one parent must be present for all interviews.
