TACOMA – Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County’s President and CEO Bruce Kendall will deliver the keynote address at Bates Technical College’s seventy-fourth commencement exercise, held in the exhibition hall of the Tacoma Dome on Friday, May 30 at 6 p.m.
The non-profit, private corporation was established in 1978 as a partnership between private business and the public sector to encourage economic development in Pierce County. The organization has worked with companies that have invested more than one billion dollars in Pierce County and created more than 14,000 jobs. Kendall, who has led the EDB since 1999, serves on several boards, including the Washington Aerospace Partnership, the Institute of Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma, and the Tacoma-Pierce County Workforce Development Council.
In addition to Kendall, Business and Management Training instructor Judae Bost’n, and Administrative Medical Assistant program and high school graduate Sara Johnson will speak at the ceremony.
Annually, more than 800 students complete their education at Bates and leave to begin careers throughout the year. On Friday evening, approximately 300 graduates will return to celebrate their educational achievements and participate in the ceremony.
