PUYALLUP – Tuesday, Pierce County Councilwoman and 10th Congressional District candidate, Joyce McDonald, called on Congressman Denny Heck to pressure the Thurston County Democratic Party to return the $65,000 received from J.Z. Knight.
“I find it outrageous that the Thurston County Democrats would take money from J.Z. Knight. She has a history of making racist and bigoted statements,” said McDonald. “As a Member of Congress and a Democrat, Heck should not just condemn Knight, but must use his influence to force the Thurston County Party to return the money.”
In 2012, it came to light J.Z. Knight had made a series of ugly anti-Catholic, anti-Jewish, anti-gay and anti-Hispanic remarks before a crowd of her followers. With the disclosure of these comments, the Washington State Democratic Party rejected the contributions at the time, but not so for the Thurston County Democratic Party this year.
“J.Z. Knight’s hurtful remarks are appalling, and it is disappointing to see a political party accept her tainted donation,” said McDonald. “It’s time for Congressman Heck to step up and tell the party to return the donation.”
“Taking this money sends the wrong message. If Heck says nothing, I can only assume he believes the money will be used by the Thurston County Democrat bosses to help in his re-election bid,” said McDonald.
“Heck needs to do the right thing!”
