Wynn, Elliott named Educators of the Month

May 12, 2014 By The Suburban Times

Marilyn Wynn from Steilacoom Historical School District and Kim Elliott from Clover Park School District were named Educators of the Month by Lakewood Rotary at their May 9th meeting.

marilynRotarian Kim Prentice first introduced Marilyn’s Assistant Principal, Mike Miller, before calling her up to receive the award.  Marilyn was described as “passionate about Steilacoom High School, her students, and all things math.” She is at school every morning by 6:30 a.m. and rarely leaves before 5 p.m.  Her door is always open before and after school for ALL students who are seeking extra support in math.  “A favorite thing about Marilyn is that she always has a brilliant smile on her face and kind words to share.”

kimKim Elliott has worked in Clover Park School District for 15 years and is a fourth grade teacher at Park Lodge Elementary. Her principal, Synette Melluzo, accompanied her to the Rotary meeting, and wrote about Kim that she “does everything with a smile! Her students love her quiet demeanor and can do attitude. They believe in themselves, because she tells them every day that they are smart, successful students. She is a leader in supporting Park Lodge Elementary’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, or PBIS, as well. When a new student comes to Park Lodge,  Kim says, ‘Great!’ And, then asks for them to be put in her class.”

The Rotary Club of Lakewood is proud to recognize our best and most energized teachers, and these two teachers certainly fit that description.

Lakewood Rotary meets every Friday, and more information can be gathered at www.lakewoodrotary.com.
