On Wednesday May 7, the Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) for Lakewood discussed the issue of disabled parking enforcement. Disabled parking enforcement is an important volunteer program within the Lakewood Police Department. Volunteers perform the important function of checking disabled parking and enforcing the appropriate regulations.
After undergoing extensive training and a background check they are empowered to write infractions for identified violations. They work under the supervision of a Lakewood police office but maintain their own schedule and patrol routes. They work in pairs.
This valuable service is suffering from a lack of volunteers. The PSAC would like to encourage anyone between the ages of 21 and forever, who would be interested in working with LPD and in providing a valuable service to our community, to volunteer. For information and arranging an interview call the Lakewood Police at 830-5000.
