Awakening at 3:30 a.m. in order to board a Paris-bound plane doesn’t sound like much fun, but five SHS students and their chaperones did just that in early April for their Spring Break trip to Paris. Definitely worth any inconvenience.
The April jaunt was the fifth such trip taken in recent years by Steilacoom French students.
With Paris enjoying and earlier-than-usual spring this year, it was especially memorable, said Roberta Black, SHS French Teacher. After changing planes in Chicago, the group then flew direct to Paris for a full five-day visit to the City of Light.
And what a trip it was!
From Les Tuilleries, to Trocadero, from the Seine to the Eiffel Tower, from Mt. St. Michele, to the streets of Paris, from the castles and churches to the cafes, the Palace at Versailles; even a trip to Omaha Beach—it truly was a trip to be savored for years to come.
Those making this trip included Sarah Patsign, Kaylee Peiffer Conley, Adam Kozyra, Aurora Authement and Makayla Hartwell.
SHS students joined with French students from Georgia, Issaquah, and Indiana. Ronan, their tour guide, kept them moving, interspersing their trip with tidbits of local history—he spoke six different languages.
Aside from the bus tour; they calculated that they walked “43 miles” during the week.
Going on the trip “was one of the main reasons I decided to study French,” said one of the students.
“With everything in bloom, the weather, etc. It was so spectacular; everything went well,” said Mrs. Black.
“I loved the whole trip,” added Adam.
