A University Place citizen has been awarded the 2014 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award for Outstanding Volunteer of National Service Programs in Washington State. This award recognizes the outstanding efforts made by volunteers in addressing the needs of their communities.
Rachel DeForrest was nominated by West Pierce Fire & Rescue for her enthusiasm and dedication to the Community Emergency Response Team or (CERT) Program. She is the CERT team leader for the University Place North Team. Her team is very organized, she attends all meetings and reaches out to her community to inform them about CERT.
West Pierce Fire & Rescue is proud to be associated with such devoted citizen volunteers and joins the Governor in thanking them for their service and dedication.
To acknowledge the vital role of volunteers, the tenth annual recognition event will be held in the Executive Mansion in Olympia on April 21, 2014. On the evening of April 21st, the Seattle Mariners and the Washington Commission for National and Community Service are hosting the sixth annual Salute to Volunteers Night. Pre-game ceremonies will include an on-field special tribute to the distinguished volunteers.
