Jennifer Trueit, a first grade teacher at Lakeview Hope Academy in Clover Park School District, was named Lakewood Rotary’s Educator of the Month at the club’s regular meeting on Friday, April 11. With Michael Auton (principal of Lakeview Hope Academy) in attendance as well, Rotarian Kim Prentice noted that Jennifer is described as a leader among her peers. She demonstrates sound instructional delivery in each of the five elements of teaching:
- Differentiated instruction;
- Student engagement;
- Learning activities;
- Expectations for learning; and
- Assessment criteria.
Jennifer was also described as a life-long learner. She easily integrates technology into her daily lessons and makes learning fun for her students.
In her remarks, Jennifer admitted to reminiscing about her past mentors upon notice of this award presentation. A student in the Clover Park District as a kindergartner and first grader, her family moved away only to happily move back for junior and senior high (Hudtloff & Lakes). She described one teacher in particular, Robert Peterson, from Lakes High School. Mr. Peterson inspired her, and set her on her course as a teacher. His enthusiasm for the task of teaching inspires her still. (While not able to attend the meeting, Robert Peterson is a Lakewood Rotarian.)
Congratulations to Jennifer Trueit, Lakewood Rotary’s Educator of the Month for April. For more information on Lakewood Rotary, go to www.lakewoodrotary.com.
