Construction in Town and Safety Measures:

Town staff and the various contractors have erected signs, barricades, and other safety devices alerting the public to the work and keep people safe.  Please adhere to the notices/restrictions. If you see someone moving or not adhering to the safety measures, please notify staff.

Saltar’s Point Park:

Saltar’s Point Park remains closed. If anyone notices trespassers on the beach, please contact Public Safety using the non-emergency number – 253 798-4721. Staff continues to work with BNSF officials pursuing design of a replacement structure. The PRB at their February 26, 2014 meeting approved the design submitted for the replacement structure.  No timeline has been established for replacement as of this time.

Town Website:

The Town recently redeveloped and enhanced its website.  One of the new features is the ability of citizens to be notified when changes, updates, or notices are made or added to the website.  If you are interested in this feature, please consider signing up on the website located at townofsteilacoom.org under “Notify Me”.

Public Safety:

Staffing:

We anticipate making a hiring decision for an entry level position by the end of the month with the training Academy starting in April.

Public Works:

Sequalish Street Project;

The contractor poured curbs on the section between Main Street and Chambers Street.  Weather permitting; the contractor may pave the first lift of asphalt on this section next week.  On the lower section, work continues on walls and storm drainage.

Lafayette Street Project:

The contractor poured curbs along the project.  Next week, the contractor may start pouring curb ramps and sidewalks (weather permiting).  Due to funding restrictions, the overlay portion of the project may not be performed prior to April 1.

Streets and Storm:

Crew Emphasis:

The crew focused on storm water management (cleaning storm drains) and street sweeping.  They also removed the snow equipment from the remainder of the Town vehicles, installed rock in the ditch at Main Street and Starling Street, performed road shoulder maintenance on 2nd Street south of Gove Street, and swept streets.

Electrical:

Crew Emphasis:

The crew completed the Colbert infrared system testing, attended motor control repair and maintenances classes, repaired a broken primary wire at Sequalish Street and Chambers Street, and installed a vault drain in Chapman Loop.

Water/Sewer:

Crew Emphasis:

The crew jetted the sewer main at 5th Street and Montgomery Street and the main at Chambers Street and Beech Street, and responded to a low water pressure complaint on Rainier Street.

Parks and Grounds:

The crew hand-mowed several parks due to wet conditions along with performing other buildings and grounds maintenance activities.
