Lakewood Career Academy’s (LCA) Keith Reynolds and Tyler Green won awards at the Jobs for Washington’s Graduates (JWG) Annual Leadership Conference at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound on March 5. Reynolds received a silver medal for public speaking and a bronze for interviewing. Green won a silver medal for public speaking.
“I was able to practice my public speaking with Keith before the event,” said Green, who is studying to be a chef. “It helped me get over my fear of public speaking. The feedback from the judges was important because it showed me what I still need to work on.”
“I really feel the skills I learned at this leadership conference will give me a better chance at getting a job,” said Reynolds, who wants to pursue a career as a musician.
JWG is a school-to-career program with a mission to keep young people in school through graduation. It was started by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction in October 2011 as a chapter of the National Jobs for America’s Graduates. LCA is a career-preparation high school program that provides opportunities for Clover Park School District students to learn and prepare for careers of their choice.
