A Department of Social and Health Services proposal regarding “Adult Group Homes” was noticed by residents in the Oakbrook community of Lakewood. The Oakbrook Community Facebook Page constructed an abstract of the proposal noting, “The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is about to move on a proposed rule which will make it easier to relocate Western State Hospital patients into many of the Adult Family Homes located throughout the City of Lakewood.”
“The City was approached by residents at Monday’s (March 3) City Council meeting,” said Brent Champaco, Communications Manager for the City of Lakewood. “Their testimony prompted the Council to adopt the following motion:
“Councilmember Brandstetter moved that the Council oppose the inclusion of adult family homes in the category of enhanced services facilities proposed in WAC Chapter 388-107-0030. Seconded by Councilmember Bocchi. Voice vote was taken and carried.
“The City is studying exactly what kind of effect this could have on Lakewood and will act accordingly.”
