Kiwanis Club of Steilacoom was first conceived in 1993 to meet the goals of community service and outreach. Since then it has grown to include students within the local school district, thus benefiting the entire town.
MG John Hemphill, USA Ret, Wolf Fletter, Terry Hulin, Dick Muri, John Inselman, and others realized that the community did not have a community service organization and researched to find which one would most fulfill the needs of the citizens of Steilacoom. From Elementary School to Middle School to High School: Circle K Kids, Builder’s Club, Key Club…they’re now all part of Kiwanis of Steilacoom.
Since the early 1990s this service group has sponsored a variety of community events in Town, from the Spring Egg Hunt to assisting with the October Apple Squeeze, from conducting Bike Safety courses each spring, to serving at the annual Museum Association dinner in December, to selling colorful Flower Baskets each spring and raising funds for SHS scholarships and more…all part of the goal of promoting community service. This past January the organization hosted its wine tasting fundraiser at Clover Park Technical College.
Weekly Kiwanis meetings are currently held from 7-8 a.m. at Saltar’s Point Elementary School. Jeff Bryant is the organization’s current president. Visit the organization’s website at www.kiwanisclubofsteilacoom.org for dPrint This Post
