On February 14, the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber met at the Pacific Grill Events Center in Tacoma to recognize businesses that are committed to promoting a healthy work environment. During the luncheon, Harborstone Credit Union received the “Gold WorkWell Award” and the “WorkWell Happy Heart Achievement Award” for their programs and activities that support employee health and well-being.
In 2010, Harborstone Credit Union formed a Wellness Team. “The team was established to help employees find the resources they need to achieve their health goals,” said Imbenia Kline, the chairman of the committee. “We also do our best to implement programs designed to promote healthy lifestyles,” Kline went on to say.
Harborstone Credit Union offers employee nutrition workshops, fitness reimbursements, health fairs, an on-site fitness center, fitness classes, and weight loss challenges. Furthermore, Harborstone sponsors 10K-A-Day Walking Challenges and pays for entries into events like Rampage at the RAC, the Big Climb, and Relay for Life.
Harborstone has partnered with Group Health Cooperative to offer access to cessation programs, and collaboratively, Group Health and Harborstone offer biometric screening services to encourage employee lifestyle changes. Additionally, Harborstone Credit Union and its staff have aided in improving others’ health by partnering with Cascade Blood Services for many years to hold quarterly employee blood drives.
