40 = 120

February 12, 2014 By Ben Sclair

How is it possible for a human body, which holds about 1.5 gallons of blood, to donate 5 gallons? Answer: One pint at a time. Today was my 40th visit to a Cascade Regional Blood Services (CRBS) “bloodmobile”. Each visit produces one pint which saves three lives. So, 40 visits equals 120 lives saved. My math works.

imageCRBS makes it easy to give. Every eight weeks I receive a call from a scheduler to tell me a donation station will be at St. Clare’s on Wednesday and to make a reservation. The morning of the reservation, I receive a reminder call and away we go.

Care to join me? Give Cascade Regional Blood Services a call at 877-24-BLOOD and sign up.

    Ben,

    I must tell you something. Great article starting with the eye catching title “40 = 120”.

    Then there is your math saving lives 1 pint at a time. I hope many people will act on your life saving request.

    One last thing. When I am older, I want to be an excellent writer like you, making our world a better place.

    I’m a regular donor, too, Ben….didn’t know each donation helps 3 people! Want all UP area folks to know the bloodmobile is in the Green Firs parking lot near Safeway on a regular (weekly, I think) basis. Easy to give close to home, and the phone call reminders when it’s my time again are so helpful. UP-ers…..check it out!
