TACOMA – Charles Wright faculty member Todd Ritchie was awarded Pierce Transit’s ‘Employee Transportation Coordinator of the Year’ honor at the 16th annual Summit Appreciation Luncheon on January 30 at the Hotel Murano.
This is the first year that Pierce Trips, a Pierce County-based organization that promotes environmentally friendly forms of commuting to and from work, gave out the Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC) of the Year Award. Mr. Ritchie was honored for developing a transportation program for Charles Wright faculty and staff that went above and beyond the volunteer role of an ETC.
As a volunteer, Mr. Ritchie “jumped in pedals first,” says Pierce Transit’s Karen Henderson, to develop alternative transportation programs for Charles Wright employees that included encouraging colleagues to join him for Bike Month Commuter Challenges, which they won in May 2013. “He mapped all the employees to coordinate carpools and/or bike buddies and regularly teaches how to fix flats, adjust derailliers, and tune bikes for employees trying to start biking,” Henderson says in a statement.
In 2013, Mr. Ritchie also expanded the sharing of information by adding information boards across the Charles Wright campus and promoting programs such as Bike Month, Try Transit Month, and Wheel Options among colleagues and families of enrolled students.
