Steilacoom: Parks/Trails Meeting; and attempted burglaries information

January 27, 2014 By Nancy Henderson

The next Steilacoom Parks and Trails Task Force Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 12 February, from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Map Room at the Town Hall on Lafayette St. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting where the discussion will focus on recommendations for park enhancements and work parties.

Also, while not directly related to the topic of Parks/Trails, it is important that Town citizens be aware of an increase in burglaries in Steilacoom during the month of January–at least 8 this month, with 3 attempted burglaries Saturday morning. It may start with a knock on the door. Even a “girl scout” alledgedly selling cookies has been mentioned. Please note the below message from Mayor Lucas:

“Today three attempted/burglaries occurred. Two on 1st Street….one on Short St. I have been in contact with Paul, Chief, and on duty officers the last many hours. Our detective has worked the past reports and has been in contact with surrounding law enforcement. More work is needed.

I believe the thief has a car in the target area which is out of place to normal cars; it may be a girl soliciting pressure washing, gutter cleaning, etc as a method to check if anyone is home.

We are working on the best response to increase awareness of the public….by Monday were we will be better prepared.

Encourage all to lock the doors, keep activate burglar alarms, be very watchful. I believe residents will break this rash of crime.

Pretty bold on a Sat morning/afternoon as most are at home or neighborhood is active.

As people who are out and about enjoying our parks and trails, you are a great extension of the eyes and ears of our Public Safety officers. Please share with law enforcement any suspicious activity. Please share this information with your neighbors as we continue to be watchful for each other.

Thanks for being good neighbors as well as stewards of our parks and trails.
