On January 28, 2014 there will be a Veterans Resource and Job Fair Planning Committee meeting at the Federal Way library. The aim of this meeting will be to discuss and begin to coordinate for a veteran’s event that will take place at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall on June 21, 2014. This event will be providing resources and service providers to all types of Veterans and their families including those typically found at a Stand-down (for homeless and those at risk).
Myself and other fellow veteran advocates believe that creating this type of large veteran’s event at the Tacoma Dome will bring a large a population from both King and Pierce County’s. This is why we are asking that providers from both King and Pierce Counties collaborate to put this event together. Since this is a community event, any agency that in good faith is assisting Veterans will not be charged anything for a booth at this event. Due to the size of the location we can spilt up the areas where service providers will be located into county specific sections. We understand that some agencies will be hesitant to be involved in something that is across the county line; and we hope that this assurance will spark them to be involved. We understand your situations and your worries; but at the end of the day the point of this type of event is to assist others.
At present, this event idea is not sponsored by any agency; a few veteran advocates that have a deep commitment to bettering the lives of their fellow veterans and citizens are orchestrating it. Please join us to bring a deeply needed platform to provide services to the community. If you cannot attend this first planning meeting, please email (Tito) the contact person below to announce your interest.
MEETING LOCATION: Federal Way Library – Meeting Room 1 – 34200 1st Way South, Federal Way, WA 98003. Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 1215pm – 215pm.
Additionally, we are currently fundraising for the security deposit ($3000) to reserve the event date. Please do your part and post this link and what we are doing in your Facebook, Twitter, Email, etc. to raise attention on this important event: www.gofundme.com/Veterans-Resource-Fair
The event organizers were able to offer a similar event at Green River Community College in June of last year and are hoping to engage an even larger population between both counties and this new ideal location.
