In conjunction with January, National Mentoring Month, Governor Jay Inslee, in a Washington State Proclamation, has urged the people in our state to join together in this special observance and become involved with mentoring programs.
We know that the future of our community, state and nation rests on educated, responsible, confident and well nurtured youth. Research shows that mentoring has a positive impact on the success of our young people. Therefore, consider a close look at a program in your community of Lakewood.
The Champions Mentor Program, sponsored by Communities in Schools of Lakewood, (CISL) is a well established and successful program for Clover Park students. Currently, 95 students have been matched with a mentor with several students remaining on the waiting list. Matches are carefully made, taking many issues into consideration in order for a strong and stable relationship to develop between mentee and mentor.
Mentors come in all ages, with a variety of talents and interests. Consider becoming a mentor. Training and continued support are provided by the Champions Mentor Program director, Leah Livingston. She may be contacted at CISL 253-589-7489 or 253-677-5642 or firstname.lastname@example.org
