Lakewood Rotary’s Robert Peterson presented Petrice Bokako as the club’s Student of the Month for January at their January 17 meeting. Petrice came to Lakewood and Clover Park High School from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She and her family have experienced the horrors of a brutal civil war, family losses, and the experience of being a refugee, immigration, and relocation.
Despite this, or maybe because of it, Petrice pursues rigorous academic courses as a means to learn and improve her own intellectual growth. Her attitude and personal zeal set a standard that many other students see and emulate. After only two years here in this country, her English is superb, and she is now mentoring other English language learners. She is a strong, independent individual who realized long ago that she must rely on herself.
Petrice is Clover Park High School’s 2014 Daffodil Princess. Her principal at Clover Park, John Seaton, wrote that “there is no doubt in my mind that Petrice will become one of the finest graduates our school has ever developed.”
Congratulations to Petrice Bokako, Lakewood Rotary’s Student of the Month for January, 2014. Lakewood Rotary has been serving the Lakewood community since 1956. www.lakewoodrotary.com.
