Story by Joseph Boyle
We constantly hear and see information in the news regarding the latest tricks played by local and national scofflaws. You do not need me to write about these evil doers since there are plenty of others who send their pens in that direction.
I enjoy writing about good people; local heroes; people performing acts of kindness to others. I have one of those stories right now.
For many of us, hearing the name Dorothy Wilhelm, triggers the descriptor, “Community Asset”. Dorothy has done it again. Recently 40 students signed up for communication and public speaking classes at Clover Park Technical College.
As the first day of class drew near, the college was facing educational disaster. Two different individuals had planned to teach the class, but had to cancel at the last minute. Dorothy rode in on her white horse and rescued the students. Dorothy’s background as a member of the National Speakers Association, radio personality, television personality, and 20 + years as a newspaper columnist made her eminently qualified to teach this class. Thanks, Joe, for an update on this wonderful, humerous and iconic,”Community Asset”. Dorothy has worked behind the scenes and out in the public for lo, these many years, and has been superb in all her endeavors, in my opinion. She makes you feel like a personal friend when you meet her. Although that has occurred on only a few occasions in my case I’ve never forgotten those times…..and I repeat, she’s a very funny lady besides all her other attributes!

Glad to hear Dorothy Wilhelm is still sharing her knowledge and experience with others. My first contact with her was when she taught a drawing class at Pierce College (then Fort Steilacoom Community College). She does indeed have many talents.
