At a ceremony in Lakewood City Hall on Tuesday, the torch of Keep Lakewood Beautiful (KLB) was passed to the Lakewood Community Foundation Fund. The torch was in the form of a $155,000 check from the Rose Murphy Endowment.
“This check, which we are honored to receive, will increase the Lakewood Community Foundation Funds assets to more than $700,000,” noted LCFF vice president Tom Sadler. “This endowment, along with other foundation assets, will serve benefit of Lakewood in perpetuity.”
Joe Stortini, former Pierce County Executive, along with his brother Ken attended Tuesday’s ceremony. “We were Aunt Rose’s favorite nephews,” chuckled Stortini. “Rose would be absolutely thrilled with the prospect of her gift being used to serve the community [Lakewood] she loved so much.”
“While we are sad to wind down Keep Lakewood Beautiful, the Lakewood Community Foundation is the perfect match to see the Rose Murphy Endowment serve its purpose,” stated KLB president Bob Warfield.
