University Place, Wash. – The Board of Fire Commissioners for West Pierce Fire & Rescue have decided to relocate the fire station located at 7909 40th Street West in University Place. Relocation was deemed to be in the best interest of the department and the community due to the station’s close proximity to the headquarters station, located at 3631 Drexler Drive West. “The close proximity of the two stations creates response gaps in the southern and eastern portions of University Place” said Fire Chief Jim Sharp.
A new, more centrally located station will be built to improve the efficiency of response times throughout the fire district. A final determination on a location for the new station is expected to be finalized in early 2014. The property on 40th Street is anticipated to be placed on the market in January.
The station on 40th Street will remain open while the property is being marketed. When the property is sold, the personnel will be moved to the headquarters station on Drexler Drive until a new station is completed.
