Lakes High School’s JG McCall was recently named South Puget Sound League’s (SPSL) Girls’ Soccer Coach of the Year. This is McCall’s first year as head coach. He served as assistant coach the previous two years. McCall said the team is proving that girls’ soccer at Lakes can be competitive and do well in the challenging SPSL league. The girls have trained much harder this year and have a lot of trust in themselves and the coaches.
“Even though this award is given to the coach, it’s really the girls that made this happen,” said McCall. “You can’t be a good coach without a team that’s open to what you’re teaching. This honor is really a reflection of the type of team we have.”
McCall has been involved with soccer his whole life. He played club soccer and played in high school and college. Coaching was a way for him to stay involved with the sport he loves.
McCall received the award at the post-season SPSL coaches meeting in early November.
