Rep. Denny Heck (WA-10) has signed on to a bill that would index the federal minimum wage to the Consumer Price Index, just like Washington state’s minimum wage law. The bill, H.R. 1010, would also initially increase the federal minimum wage to $10.10 over two years before indexed increases begin.
“By indexing the federal minimum wage like we do our state’s minimum wage, we eliminate the possibility Congressional gridlock will block future minimum wage increases,” Congressman Heck said.
“No one who works a full-time job should live in poverty. This bill will help families and individuals working to get into the middle class. As a small businessman, I know this bill will allow Washington businesses to compete on a more level playing field with the rest of the nation. Congress should make the holiday season brighter for millions of working families by moving this bill forward before adjourning for the year.”
