TACOMA – Bates Technical College employees and students will brave cold temperatures during the morning hours of Thursday, Dec. 5 and Friday, Dec. 6 to help raise funds for Bates students in need at the 22nd annual Holiday Meal Drive.
The college’s Fire Service program will light up Yakima Avenue from 11th to Earnest S. Brazill streets with ladder and fire trucks, and join volunteers to help canvas the area and collect cash donations from6:30-10 a.m. Throughout the two-day fundraiser, Fire Service students will continue the annual tradition of performing push-ups for donations.
For the second year, event organizers have partnered with Fred Meyer to provide one ready-made holiday meal per recipient. Last year, the drive raised more than $10,000, which organizers used to purchase food for about 175 students.
