Lakes High School’s Joe Clark has been named the South Puget Sound League’s Boys’ Cross Country Coach of the Year. This is the 10th time Clark has earned coach of the year for either the girls’ or boys’ cross country teams. This is also the fourth year the boys’ cross country team has competed at state. Clark says his whole coaching staff should be recognized with this honor.
“It’s a group effort and every decision we make is made as a team,” said Clark. “We teach the athletes how to race, not just run. The athletes are really good about taking ownership for their training.”
This is Clark’s sixth year teaching at Lakes but he has been with the district for 20 years. He started coaching Lakes’ cross country teams in 1995.
