Domestic Violence Related Homicide in Lakewood

November 13, 2013 By The Suburban Times

By Lt. Chris Lawler, Lakewood Police Department

Lakewood Police Department Homicide detectives arrested the 32 year old boyfriend of 33 year old Angela Cannizzio-Brooks Wednesday evening for Murder in the second degree.  He has been booked into the Pierce County Jail.

On November 13, 2013 at approximately 4:03 AM, a frantic male called 911 to report that his girlfriend was unresponsive and needed medical aid.  The male called from an apartment at the Pacific Walk Townhomes located at the 8300 block of 31st Avenue South.  West Pierce Fire & Rescue responded and requested police because of a suspicious scene and circumstances.  Patrol officers arrived on scene and the 33 year old female victim was pronounced deceased.

Detectives will meet with the Pierce County Prosecutor in the morning to review the case, so that formal charges can be filed.  Please confirm the arraignment date with the Pierce County Prosecutor.

The identity of the suspect will be released once formal charges are filed.

Detectives interviewed the suspect boyfriend at the Lakewood Police Station after he was detained at the scene.  The boyfriend admitted that he had been arguing with Cannizzio-Brooks that night and that they got into a physical fight.  He told detectives that he lost control and struck Cannizzio-Brooks with an upright vacuum a couple of times until it appeared she lost consciousness.  He admitted to dragging her downstairs and continuing the assault in the living room.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office reported the manner of death as homicide and the cause of death as strangulation with additional factors of blunt force injuries of the head.
