They served. They fought. They sacrificed – all in the name of protecting our country. Now, the City of Lakewood wants to offer its small token of gratitude to our nation’s veterans.
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Lakewood City Council will recognize all veterans during a special presentation of a proclamation declaring the month of November as “Veterans Appreciation Month” to members of the 4-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, the City’s Community Connector to Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Expected to attend are Col. Jody Miller, the Raiders’ Brigade Commander, and Command Sgt. Major Oscar L. Vinson.
Mayor Don Anderson is scheduled to make a special proclamation honoring men and women serving or who have served in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Navy and other branches of the Armed Forces. Anderson, himself, is a veteran who served overseas as a U.S. Navy JAG officer from 1979-1981.
The presentation will take place toward the start of the City Council’s study session meeting, which will begin 7 p.m., Tuesday at Lakewood City Hall, City Council Chambers, 6000 Main St. SW.
The City is asking all veterans to attend and be recognized for their service and sacrifices. All members of the public are encouraged to attend.
