Veterans Glassblowing Day Celebrated at Museum of Glass

October 31, 2013 By The Suburban Times

TACOMA — On Saturday, November 9 Museum of Glass joins the national celebration of Veterans Glassblowing Day with free admission to veterans and their families and discounted hands-on glass fusing workshops.

The inaugural Veterans Glassblowing Day was initially inspired by President Obama’s call for citizens to help our veterans find work after returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Following President Obama’s passing of the Veterans Skills Job Act in July 2012, longtime glassblower Lisa Aronzon was inspired by this call to action and invited the glassblowing community to come together in support of our veterans.

Museum of Glass joins over twenty other studios and schools which have come together to offer special opportunities to veterans. The complete list can be found at veteransglassblowingday.org.

“Without a doubt, this is one of the most important activities for Museum of Glass. Our whole team is excited to be joining the nationwide effort and with Joint Base Lewis McCord and Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor in such close proximity, we would like to welcome many veterans to come experience our world-class Hot Shop, fascinating exhibitions, and hands-on learning opportunities,” states Susan Warner, director of Museum of Glass.
