Thinking About Law School?

October 31, 2013 By University of Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. — Students considering a career in law will have the chance to meet representatives of 34 law schools from across the country at University of Puget Sound on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The law school open fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Wheelock Student Center.

Puget Sound pre-law students and students from other disciplines who are interested in legal careers are urged to attend. Students from neighboring and regional colleges and universities are also very welcome. Those visiting the fair will be able to learn about the individual law schools and their admission and financial aid processes.

More than 300 of Puget Sound’s current 2,600 undergraduate students expressed an interest in law when they were admitted to the college. Graduates from Puget Sound have an historically high rate of acceptance at U.S. law schools.

Incoming students who are interested in a law career are encouraged to pursue a rigorous undergraduate curriculum in an area of interest to them, as per the guidelines of the Law School Admission Council and American Bar Association. Puget Sound’s liberal arts education, emphasizing analytical and problem-solving skills, critical reading and writing, and oral communication and research skills, provides precisely the foundation recommended for a future law career.

Pre-law advisors among the faculty and in the Office of Academic Advising are available to help students with the process of researching and applying for law school—a process that students are advised to begin in their junior year.

Puget Sound’s pre-law advising Web pages provide valuable information, links, lists of advisors, and answers to questions. Visit: www.pugetsound.edu/academics/advising–registrar/resources/pre-law-advising/.
